Welcome to Beckum's Berners!
A little history of the Bernese Mountain Dogs. Originally from Switzerland, the Bernese Mountain Dogs were
all around farm dogs used for herding, driving the cows to and from the mountain pastures, for drafting, pulling carts with
milk from the farms to the dairy, and were good watchdogs. Today’s dogs are not commonly used as work dogs, but are instead bred to be family pets. They thrive on human companionship and should be made a part of the family.
They are a gentle breed, very affectionate and extremely faithful. They
are excellent companions for children and get along very well with other pets. While
they make good watch dogs, they can be quite reserved around strangers. Once
they have accepted you as a friend, they will remember you all of their life.
A little about us. We are a small hobby breeder, located on two acres, near Green Bay, Wisconsin. Our goal is to produce Bernese Mountain Dogs that meet the AKC standard for the breed, paying close attention to health, structure, soundness, type, and temperament, that would be great show
potential, but more importantly would be loved as a member of a family, with great personalities, good temperaments and intelligence. We strive to produce beautiful, loyal companions that live
long, healthy lives and still maintain their individual abilities. Our
dogs are loved, raised in our home and have plenty of outdoors time. They enjoy
camping just as much, if not more than we do!
